Hayling Island Fishing Guide
Hayling Island is a fantastic place for all kinds of sea fishing offering a varied range of marks. The best thing about it is they are all relatively close to each other. This means that if you’re coming from afar, it’s pretty easy to travel light and visit a few different spots in the same day. If you’re having trouble with seaweed at the Langstone Harbour entrance, you can pack up and move to the opposite end of the island within 10 minutes!
As far as tackle shops are concerned, there is currently only one option on the island itself – but fortunately it’s excellent. Mick’s Fishing Tackle sells a wide range of tackle and baits, and the staff have an unrivalled knowledge of the local area. Be sure to visit.
As for equipment, your normal beach fishing gear will be more than adequate. If you’re a beginner looking for your first rod, our suggestion is the classic Shakespeare Ugly Stik. It’s an excellent, dependable rod suitable for a range of situations. It’ll last you years too.
No visit to Hayling Island is complete without visiting the wonderful Funland attraction. With exciting rides and amusements, there’s something for all the family – where else can you catch a decent bass while the kids are riding a rollercoaster next door? You should also check out the Hayling Seaside Railway and ride the train for a charming piece of local history.
There are a number of excellent pubs where you can grab a pint or a bite after a long day angling. The Ferryboat is an excellent choice, as is the Inn on the Beach. Both offer superb beach fishing right next door. Or perhaps you want to try your luck for conger on Langstone Bridge – in which case The Ship is a brilliant little pub to whet your whistle.
