Browndown beach, based between Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent, is an MOD owned shingle and sand beach popular amongst dog walkers and anglers alike. The site is occasionally used for army exercises, so be aware that the beach is off limits when the red flags are flying and the gates are shut. You can enter from either end.
As for the fishing, this is a challenging mark that really rewards putting in the effort. There is access to deep water and the mussel beds are visited by some excellent bass. It's important to get the presentation right, or you will have a frustrating time! Pair worm baits with squid for the best results here.
This is a great location for bass, thornback rays, flounder and dogfish. Weed can sometimes be an issue, so it's best to reel in and check baits more often in order to ensure they are still presented properly.
